An early pick-up time is scheduled for this specific day tour. You will start your long journey to the desert from Marrakech hotel/riad. The drive takes you through the striking landscape of the High Atlas Mountains passing by Ouarzazate known as the Hollywood of Africa.

We’ll continue driving towards Ouarzazate, via Alnif, Tazarine, Nkob, and Agdez; will enjoy the view of the green and lush Draa Valley which has hundreds of Berber Kasbahs; crossing the small Atlas mountains to Ouarzazate then through the famous Tizi –in-Tichka pass over the High Atlas Mountains. Arriving in Marrakech where your desert tour ends. Drop off at your Riad/hotel.

Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Benhaddou – Boumalne Du Dades.

We will start your desert tour from Marrakesh airport/hotel/riad, in order to drive to Ouarzazate, a former caravan town on the silk and salt route in the eastern foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Ouarzazate is known as the Gateway to the Sahara desert. We will travel through the dramatic landscape of the High Atlas Mountains passing through the Berber town of Taddert and over the 2260 meters high Tizi-in-Tichka pass. Having a stop at the famous Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, 30 kilometers from Ouarzazate. The Kasbah is one of the most intriguing red earth castles lining the ancient road of the Kasbahs and is a UNESCO world heritage site. Lunch by the Kasbah and continue on our way to Dades valley via Ouarzazate. “the Hollywood of Africa”. On, through the “Road of the thousand Kasbahs”- the fascinating “sand castles”. We will continue in our journey to stop at Kalaat Mgouna, “the rose’s city” known for roses and its annual festival during the roses harvest in May, and then continue to the hotel in Dades region.

Day 2: Boumalne Du Dades – Todra Gorge – Merzouga

After breakfast in the hotel, Leaving the Dades valley towards Tineghir and the Todra valley. Watch the panoramic views of the old mud Berber villages overlooking the valley. Get to the Gorge and walk under the 300m high red cliff, where many Rock-climbers come to enjoy their preferred sport. Continue our trip to Erfoud where we have a lunch break; afterward, we drive toward the village of Merzouga and Erg Chebbi dunes, where your camel will be awaiting you. You will mount your camel and be guided by an experienced Camel man, to cross the vast sea sand. Watch the sunset and continue you to the luxury desert camp. Dinner and spend your night in your luxurious tent. local music around the fireplace and dance under the stars.

Day 3: Merzouga – Marrakech.

4 DAYS MARRAKECH DESERT TOURS ITINERARY:

Day 1: Marrakech-Tizi N’tichka Pass-Ait Benhaddou-Ouarzazate-Kelaa M’gouna-Boumalne Dades.

Today, we pick you up from your Hotel in Marrakech, and departure to Ait Benhaddou over the mountains of high Atlas passing through the Tizi N’tichka pass (2260 m in altitude), visit the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou and stop for lunch in a local restaurant.

In the Afternoon we will drive to Ouarzazate and stop near the atlas film studios for a photo then continue to the city center for a panoramic view of the kasbah of Taourirt.

After that, you will head to Kalaa M’gouna or Boumalne du Dades for a night.

Dinner and overnight at a hotel.

Day 2: Kelaa M’gouna – Boumalne Dades – Todra Gorges-Tinejdad-Erfoud-Erg Chebbi (Merzouga).

This morning after breakfast in the hotel, driving towards Tineghir passing by Boumalne du Dades and stopping for a panoramic view of Dades valley.

Later on, we will continue to Todra gorges via Imider and Tineghir. Stopping along the way for photos and admiring the views. Arrive at Todra Gorges to enjoy its marvelous Canyons views while hiking on foot.

We continue to Tinejdad and have a break for lunch then to Erfoud where you will visit a local fossil craft workshop.

After that you will continue to the captivating dunes of Erg Chebbi, these dunes are called also Merzouga Dunes. Arrive at the Camel area and get ready for a camel trek to enjoy the sunset. you will continue to the camp for an overnight in a luxury/traditional nomad tent.

Dinner and spend the night in a bivouac in the middle of the desert.  

Day 3: Merzouga – Hassi Labied – Khamlia – Nomad family – fossil Site – Tour of the dunes

Wake up early morning to enjoy the sunrise on the top of the dune in the Sahara Desert then have your breakfast. After these beautiful moments.

You will have a tour of the dunes on a 4×4 allowing you to visit the black volcanic rocks of fossils, visit a nomad family living in a tent, visit Khamlia village and entertainment of their spiritual music of Gnawa, and visit the lake Dayte Sarji that forms in springtime which attracts pink flamingos and wildlife. Then you will have a break for lunch in Merzouga or Hassi Labied.

After lunch, you will see the canal irrigation system and have a walk on the oasis located at the foot of the dunes. Continue to your camp for a shower and relaxation.

Dinner and Overnight in a camp.

Day 4: Erg Chebbi (Merzouga) – Marrakech

After enjoying the amazing sunrise among the sand dunes and having breakfast, you ride back your Camels to the Auberge.  

You will travel back directly to Marrakech and have a few stops on the way.

Enjoy your lunch then continue to the red city of Marrakech over the mountains of high Atlas passing through the Tizi N’tichka pass (2260 m in altitude).

Arrive in Marrakech and drop you off in your provided address/closest parking.

Yes, you can go to the desert from Marrakech while heading to the south. Crossing the Atlas mountains ranges and travel a long distance far from Marrakech. You will start to see glimpses of sand dunes with very little vegetation. That’s where the real Sahara desert lies.

Note that the closest sea sand dunes areas from Marrakech are Erg Chebbi near Merzouga and Erg Chiggaga near Mhamid.
